What the hell is the deal with all the jellyfish this year? :banghead

They seem to be everywhere and millions of them. Anyone know why and have any idea what and/or when they will be gone? There are so many I bet they will be targeted for reductions in bag limits and probably have a closed season (April - August?).

Tell me about it, this weekend it seemed like we were being invaded, some looked to be almost 2 feet across most were about 10 inches i guess, but by the ga-gillions. Glad I didnt go overboard this time!

The information YOU can provide could help answer these questions.

Will you take a few minutes to fill out a "Jelly fish Sighting Report"?

It's a contributition we can all make to the knowledge baseof Marine science. Thanks!

A neat feature is to click on the species names and a picture with description of each pops up.

I have been getting them wrapped around my regulator while diving. I guess they just have to find their way to one part of my skin that is not covered, my face.:banghead:banghead The time before last, my lips went numb for about half the day.

went out this weekend w/a few friends, & after trolling 30-45 min w/downriggers down, pulled them up & the cables were about an inch thick

with misc jellyfish parts, but I must say having the clumps of jellyfish on my line helped me determine how much line I had left on the reel

as I was getting run off by a smoker king.

I can't recall the last time there were so many for so long. Does anyone know what has triggered this or more importantly what has to happen for things to return to "normal"?

We went out this past Saturday, and tried to drag the 8 year old girl on a tube. There weren't any where we were, or that we had seen, but a good ride down she fell off into a few of them... poor girl was panicking while getting back on, and my dad dove into the water to help her... only to land in a pod of them. Really bad experience, she doesn't want to tube for a while...
