Default I'm a semi-newbie looking for "the spot" not more than 20 miles out from the pass. PLEASE HELP

LOOKING FOR A LITTLE HELP. I have been in the area for 2.5 years. I have a 19 foot Bayliner, for sell by the way. I have fished at 3 barges, tex,and the hole about 3 miles from the Tex that sits about 100 ft deep. I have been having decent luck with Mangrove, Lane, and very very small amount of Red Snapper. I am going to be leaving the area in Nov. I have orders to Pax River, MD and will be fishing in the Chesapeake for 3 years. Anyways, I have never ventured out farther than 9 miles. Can anyone on here, please help me find a decent hole other than the above mentioned not farther than 20 miles out from NAS Pensacola. I know that is asking a lot, and probably wont get too many replies, but I just want to go out there at least 1 time before I transfer. Can anyone please help me. I am willing to post my phone number for someone to call me. please help

Red Snapper are all over everything right now. I would stick to Paradise Hole, use live bait and your first 2 drops will be legal reds. You will also find black snapper moving in. Also, never forget to put a freeline out. Use a few feet of 80 mono and a 7/0 J hook, no lead. Put a live anything on it. A king, snapper, bonita, shark, dolphin, or something will hit it.

Greens hole is a little farther and usually produces good early in the season. All my numbers are on the boat at Day Break, so I can't really help with coordinates.

Ok, I am going to stay away from the Tex for the next couple of outings. I have spent a 40 hour week over there fishing, and only caught 3 red snapper, 2 were too small. I did catch several mangrove, lane, porgies, spadefish, kings, 1 crevalle and some sharks, but I want something bigger and more of them. The kings are hit and miss. My next stop is the hole then. I have had good luck there in the past, nothing too big, but decent. and I also am going to try some coordinates that were pm'd to me. Thx again.

A great public bottom area that always produces, just make sure you stay for a while is the Russian Freighter. Its 9 miles SSE should be able to find cordinates on here, if not PM me and I'll give you numbers. I miss the Chesapeake Bay fishing, spring time is time for monster strippers (not the women the fish) HAHA.

When you are fishing the close in stuff you have to remember that any fish of any size has seen a lot of tackle in his life. Talk to any of the divers and they will tell you that they see some quality fish on the close structure. The reason a bigger fish is still alive is because he has learned to avoid tackle. When on those spots I use long flurocarbon leaders (as long as 4 feet) and keep it at about20 - 25 lb test. Sure, floro is more expensive than mono, but it is a small cost of a trip into the Gulf. I will admit we do get broken off a lot. But isn't it better to hook up on a dozen fish, break off 10 and put a couple of good fish in the boat rather thandraw a blank? I don't know what you are using for leader material now, but if you are using mono I guarantee you that if you use flurocarbon standing next to someone using mono just one time you will be sold. I also use slightly smaller circle hooks than some people (4/0 and 5/0) and buy a quality hookmade with smaller diameter wire. You can catch a pretty large fish on a quality 4/0 circle hook.

Thanks for the tips, I do use the flurocarbon, but not enough I guess. I was using about 18 inches to 2 feet, but I am going to try 4 feet next time I go fishing. Thanks again.
