I would like to switch over to high visability line for trolling so I can see the line better. I also want to be able to bottom fish. Anyone notice less bottom fish on the hook when using high visability line. This assumes a leader of clear mono or fluorocarbon.

It will make a difference especially in the middle of the summer when the bottom fish have been hit hard. Typically the lighter the line, the better the bitesduring that time of the year. I use clear only while bottom fishing but do like high vis for trolling! I'm not a fan of braid so I can't comment on it. A lot of people use braid and seem to catch alot!

Even the clear 30#line looks like 1/4" rope underwater. I've watched snapper from a distance as they examine a bait and decide to not hit it, presumably because it could see the line and/or rigging.
With a long enough and light enough leader I would assume that you could minimize any negative effecs of switching to high vis, but I personally wouldn't want to gamble on it not having an effect. |

A long fluro leader or clear mono would solve any issue in my opinion......but i'm no expert.

Most of my outfits are set-up for a specific purpose but when I pack light I carry a few rods that are good for anything. My go-to rod for snapper/grouper/ajs etc on bait is spooled with 30# momoi diamond (which is 50# test size by the way) in high vis green. I have the high vis on for when I troll with it if the need arises. However I keep a 50-100 foot topshot of smoke blue momoi at all times. the smoke blue I also use as leader material and it seems very hard for the fish to see as this set-up frequently out fishes my friend's even in mid summer. And when the topshot gets too short I cut it off and replace with another 100 feet keeping the reel full of line if I need it.
