Most of my good spots thatI fish this time of year are anywhere between 160-300ft. The better spots for big scamp are usually 240-375.

We seem to have the best luck lately fishing in the 200' range. We fished last Monday and Tuesday in 180-220 feet and loaded up on grouper and scamp.

we always fish in 300 so you get pass the endangered red snapper. they don't like that deep water. they start to thin out at 260 and by 300 you don't catch any. that way you don't waste baitfish. and have to kill any red snapper. you also get more legal size grouper and aj's at that dept. i think.

My pass two trip I fished in 75-85ft. over natural bottomand produced 18 gags butthese spots never produce scamp and only small red groupers. I'm sure I could catch gags in 65-75ft. if I took the time to go look for them.

This year has been kind of strange. Normally for me in November, I can catch nice gags on anything public in75 ft or less with the right live bait.
But it could be me. I haven't fished this year with the freqency I normally do. Matter of fact,Ididn't fish squat in 08 for various reasons.:banghead |

This time of year, quality gags can be found from 25ft. on out. Try trolling deep diving plugs through P'cola pass and parts of the bay and you will be pleasantly surprised. But like said in several of the above replies, you won't catch many decent scamp or red grouper on the shallower spots.
