From my experience on the East Coast the snapper bite is way stronger but everything else that you mentioned is slower.

I think it varies.I have fished alot at night in the gulf for bottom stuff and some nights is on fire and some are dead.we finally figured out a way to up the chances a little and some nights using the techniqe we can have non stop action i mean on fire but vis has to be half way decent so yes it is possible but overall the daytime bitew is better unless you even the odds. |

We have had good luck at night snapper fishing. We usually are anchored at night and use some chum. I have heard that trigger do not bite at night. I don't know if that's true or not, I just know I have never caught one at night.
Good luck! Ben |

Night fishing???!!! The last 2times I have been in the gulf we has run across
a 55 gal barrel floating that I almost hit. Then about a month ago we ran across a 40ft tree floating out there as well. You guys aren't afraid of running up on something? |

The OLE tight butt trip.
I prefer to fish at nite. The only species you mentioned that we have not caught at nite is a Trigger. We don't fish for Triggers that much. As far as running into something at nite is always a possibility. We have seen large trees also. Refrigerators and so on. If I fish at nite I use the moon for guidaince and light. I will try to time the moon so it will be straight in front of me while running to my spot. A little light is better than no light. We always wear our life jackets while running, especially at nite. With the EPIRB strapped to my side. 2 of the 3 1st. place fish we have caught in the ADSFR were caught at nite!!!! It can be very spooky at nite. |

I love fishing at night as well. All the Snapper species seem to bite well at night but as George said the other fish are much slower at night.

I am going to try it tomorrow night, July 4th. Got lots of flashlights ready, and hope to see some squid, but mainly red snapper.

Thought I would give a report. Sorry no photos; no one brought a camera. In the evening it was very rough even in the bay, and the Gulf was too much for us. Waves were at times very steep, and 2 to 4 seems about right with an occasional largerroller thrown in. So, we decided to change plans and watch the fireworks instead. However, why not troll back in? As we did the seas subsided some, and so we changed plans again, and headed for the Three Barges since it was the closest spot to The Pass. I could not find any relief or fish on the fish finder, but we anchored anyways. As it turned out, we could catch all the kings one could want (kept 3). No real size to them, but all were over the legal size limit. One shark which made the night for my grandson. I felt like I had one nice snapper on, but did not land him. Quite an experience for my first timer from Iowa. Glad I had radar on the way back in. I thought all buoys in the channel were lighted; apparently not or they need servicing.
