Default butterfly jig leaders

Has anybody used wire or cable for a leader on a butterfly jig?I would think it would affect the action of the jig,but Ive lost a couple of jigs when a king hit em,one of them was the first time it got wet...hate to see that 30 bucks disapear so fast:banghead

Definitely. I usually only use it if I know there are some toothy critters in the area. Don't forget the wire assist hooks too.

It will greatly reduce the amount of hits you get from snapper.grouper and ajs. I don't use wire.

We use strictly Flouro 60lb. We have been cut off several times but as a old man told me one time at academy,"The day you buy a lure is the day that you loose it." Seems to make sense. If you are getting alot of cutoffs and dont want to use wire try using a cheaper version of the jig. Williamson has jigs that preform like the buttefly for a 1/3 of the price. I have started to switch over to these jigs due to the cost. A couple of jigs lost on one day can add up quickly.

i use "AFW" bleeding wire(90#) coated......my hookup ratio did decrease but not enough to justify losing jigs.....been catching 24in snappers and legal AJ,swith no problem on them ......use small black crimp or paint crimp black to keep from getting hit at the connection... BTW no need in using the very expensive jigs....the williamson abyss jig works great for us and we pay 7.50 a piece buying bulk or 8.00 buying smaller quanities....

heres the link to the site we buy from...(no affiliation what so ever)
