I haven't tried targeting blackfin and would like some advice from Destin Pass. Where to start and what to use. What time of year? Also best areas for grouper and AJ's. I have been trying public #'s culverts, wrecks in 100'-120' depths. Any help please. Even if it is public #'s that I should start hunting around for #'s or for AJ's good places.

Try the oil rigs in 500+ feet. You can catch as many as you want.

Would like to keep it in a little closer. How close do they come on a bit of a consistant basis. What months are they around??

You should find some around the edge now.

Ditto the edge. We usually catch plenty out there until about mid november. They will still be around after thatbut not as reliable. I usually start out trolling early in the morning around the 50 fathom line with cedar plugs, small naked ballyhoo, and small daisy chains. Expect bonito as well they usually are schooling with the blackfin. Chunking is another productive method around the edge.

Can anyone gove me some #'s for starting points at the edge. I am going out of Destin. Is it a very large area? Are there grouper and AJ's out there too? Is is just live bottom or will I see structure?

Anywhere from the 50 fathom line deeper should be a good start for blackfins. On the edge, there are some niceledgeswhere you can bottom fish for AJs and grouper. Get there and look for ledges, they will show up pretty small on your fish finder. From there you can drop down jigs or bait however you like.

I usually try to go to the edge at the first of november. I anchor up and chum/chunk. After an hour or so here they come. A nice by-catch is lots of bonita, I save them for grouper fishing during the winter.. Sea-r-cy
