I only have a short time this Sat to try fishing. Don't really bottom fish much because we never have any luck finding the wrecks and fish. What close in spots have been hot lately? We have all the public numbers so you can just give the name if you don't mind sharing. I ain't looking for your honey hole....just an easy to find spot that has something on it to catch. I need to break the curse.

Spider,
I am in the same boat. Still learning the ropes of offshore. I can tell you what didnt work for me on Monday. I went to the Liberty Ship.. they were not biting for me nor the other two boats that were there. Wethen hit the three barges and my boys caught about 20 ruby red lips. Nothing else though. Tried to find the 180 rig but wasnt marking up good for me. Good Luck. Hope we have good weather Saturday. Suppossed to be 40% rain chance. |

no one will probally every give up a spot but i would like to know how people go out 5 miles and fish for snapper, all the public spots seem(for me that i've heard of) are like 7 miles or further out if you dont count 3 bars mass and the other 2 down by pen pier . I hope theres alot though......atleast someone has somthing

Legalhookin you are pretty much dead on in your assessment of the public reefs. The paradise hole SE of the pass and the Dutch Banks to the SW are pretty much it for inside of seven miles. There are coral heads about a mile south of the Liberty ships that are pretty popular. It is a pretty large area that you can usually find boats on. If people would just take their sinkers off and chum up the fish like you have said in previous posts they can catch decent fish on pretty much every public number listed. Small flourocarbon leader and pieces of chum on a circle hook is all that is necessary for bait. I have noticed a lot less remoras this year. That is a good thing.

Due to the Fed regs this year plus the cost of fuel keeping charters in closer, the close in spots are so hammered that a two fish limit is difficult.................
