Default Bait with castnet

Where would you go this time of year to find bait with a cast net? None of our usual spots paid off when we went out last Saturday. Do you need to look in deeper holes in the bay or are the Menhaden just gone until the water warms up. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. We usually fish out of Fort Morgan or Orange Beach.

Default RE: Bait with castnet

It is much harder to catch bait this time of year. If we happen to get a week or so of unusually hot weather then themenhaden will show back up in the wide open bay areas. Look for birds or menhaden flipping. There were plenty of finger mullet in all the local canals but a bunch of them died during the hard freeze. You can catch pinfish on rod and reel near the jetties in the pass or around deeper structure.
