Hit the beach this AM before the weather turned nasty. Was out past Portofino a stretch. Didn't search too hard for a spot, just set up camp and gave it a whirl. Caught 2 nice pomps in a couple hours before the nasty wind and rain started to set in. If the weather breaks again in the next few days I'll get back out there. Used peeled shrimp for both.
My daughter has a love/hate relationship with fish as you can see.... |

Where did you get your shrimp? How far did you put the baits? I tried it today and I kept one rod just outside of the breakers and one maybe 100yards out. Didnt get a bite :banghead Looking for any tips.

I always get my shrimp at Maria's. They have fresh dead bait shrimp always available. If I don't use all I buy fresh, I salt the hell out the of the leftovers and let the water purge out of them overnight. I put them in a colander over a bowl to let the water drain out. Then I freeze them flat in a zip lock so they don't stick together. When you salt the hell out of them with kosher salt before you freeze them, they don't fall apart as easy when you thaw them out.
The one's I used for these fish were thawed fresh dead. One I caught on my 12 ft pole and I got that one way past the breakers. I had a nice off shore breeze to carry it out there. The bigger one was on my small 8 ft rod and that one was well within the breakers, maybe 30-40 yds. I have found you have a better shot getting it out further but it really does not matter that much. The reds that I have caught were always real close in on what I thought were crappy casts. |
