Default Pompano Surf Report for Fri. 9/4/09

Went Fri. for about an hour after work just to check it out. Waves were a good size. Chop was moderate. Wind was a little strong blowing almost straight into my face. Water visability was pretty good. NO slime very little grass at all. Saw a little grass while wading out but it never got on the line. Could not cast far enough to get out past the first be swell were I wanted to be. Current was not that stron but larger waves kept me from wading out to far and the wind kept me from casting out to far. However I was very impressed with my new Daiwa Emcast sport(designed just for surf fishing).Even though the wind was straight in my face I was able to cast it about 150yds not including the wading out. The line comes off the spool super fast and smooth with vary little resistance. I holds a ton of line. Its backed with 30yds 30#mono and 540yds 30#power pro. A great deal at around 70 bucks. Any way water temp is still about 15 degrees to warm for pomps to be thick. Was only there for about and hour and only caught 2 catfish and 1 ladyfish. I will wait atleast another week before going for pomps unless water temp starts falling fast.

Same here. Went a few weeks back and only rounded up a few Ladys and a 31" Black Tip. I have decided that when its like that, I bring some rigs in closer to shore and target some Whiting so to have something in the cooler. Good luck on your next trip!
