Default NB report 121309/safety first

I had a late start...man it was warm out there...S. wind was picking up .."beautiful I thought" rushed the gear up, cup of coffe on hand and took off. At the beach saw a few guys pullingout..oh ^%$#I thought, maybe because of the rain approaching and all. Talked to one guy said nobody gotnothing so far....regardlessI setup and enjoyed the view...Got to use the sand spikePFF member choppedliver made, man this thing exceeded my expectations....nice and solid, this sand spike is no joke....great stuff Chris, Thanks. Managed a junior black drum took a pic and let 'm go to live another 15 years. Right there, about 1/4 mile saw lightning hitting the water and decided to wrap it up...it rain hard for a few mnts. felt good. May comeback and give you all another report if I make it. Water was somehow cloudy, but not bad...low tide, no pompano. It was just great eventhough I only spent a few mnts. out on the surf, but that lightning was way above my safety point...becarefull.

Have any contact info for the gentleman that makes those spikes? They look sexy.

We were out this morning on the bridge and had no luck. Next time out i will be going way of the surf fishing. Tight lines!

Went west of Portofino from about noon to 4. Not one strike. Older gentleman showed up at about 3 and had a pomp in 20 minutes. Not a bit of rain, though. Those are some good looking sand spikes!

Tall rods and metal rod holders make for some kind of adventure in a T'storm.

I don't know about the rod holders in the pic but sea Striker makes some just like them. They are around 20 bucks each but are well worth it.

TP indeed. That morning was sort of a rush....I knewI was pushing it, but you know how it is. I've seen spikes out of basspro, similarandI don't know if these are the same ones seastrikes sells...but the ones choppedliver makes are heavy duty stuff...pictures dont make justice, I can tell you that...once you see one foryourself you'll know what i mean.A good investement in my opinion.

I just use a 5 ft peice of 1.5 in pvc and pound them in the sand, never had a problem and a fraction of the price. Never buy pvc rod holders from a tackle store. They are way too short! Not to mention way too expensive!
