Default EOP 11/29/09

I Decided last night that I was going this am. GBBT had no fleas, I picked up the last few bags of tiny fleas from Hot Spots (hooked me up on a twofer deal). Also picked up a bag of the one inch Amber Glow Gulp fleas.

Got to the spot and marked a decent slew. I couldnt reach the deeper water, but not for lack of trying. Had four lines in around 6:20am. Water was super clear, and had almost zero grass. There seemed not to be much current and all weights held just fine.

After I was set up I went around rakin', trying to find some better bait. Fleas were few (seemed to be alot of males today), but found enough decent ones to keep going till almost noon.

There was a lot of bird activity. Tons of pelicans and others in various spots kept me hopeful. I never so much as saw a shadow. My lines would be brought in every 10-15 mins with bait still on. Can't even complain about crabs today. Didn't seem to be many people out today I so far I haven't seen any other reports yet. The Gulps stayed on the hooks really well but no takers.

Beautiful weather, it stayed nice and clear with a little wind.

I had the same luck this morning, I was down near where the road was closed after the storm. Not a nibble all morning. I was there at 0600 and left at 0930.

I fished Johnson Beach the last four days and it was like I was fishing with no bait on the hooks. Alot of bait in the water on sunday, and lots of birds.

Yeah after the water warmed up I havn't done so well at the beach this year. Makes me really appreciate a morning high tide.

I'm being reminded of the definition of insanity (doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.)

So here aremy constants.

1. EOP,I will try other places, I don't know why I'm reluctant to do so.

2. Sand Fleas/ Shrimp. Never been a believer in Gulps (at the beach), any other suggestions?

3. 80 yds max cast. I'm watchin the youtube videos for technique. I guess its time to trya big ass baticaster? Get ready for a pic of the mother of all birds nests! Will a 113 do?

I'm not the type to ever feel that I know it all, so if you guys ever want to met up or post a suggestion I'm game.

I tried down toward Ft. Pickens a few weeks before the storm and caught several under-sized Pomps before they were supposed to be in so if they ever open the road again I'm going to head down that way again.

If you want a nice conventional reel for the surf try a Daiwa Saltist. I have one on a Daiwa Sealine 12 ft rod and it throws like a champ. I can consistently get it out over 100 yards and with a good wind behind me I get a good bit more out of it. Out of hundreds of casts with it I have had one birdnest. I also use a Daiwa Sealine X20SHA on a 10 ft Sealine rod. It is amazing how light that rig is. It throws nice but it's a little more prone to backlash, I had to install the brakes in it. Now my best rig is a Daiwa Emcast Plus on a Penn 13 ft rod. That bad boy can easily break 125 yards consistently. Every time I throw it I'm amazed how easy it is to get it way out there. The only thing I don't like is that it's a pretty heavy rig compared to the Daiwas. Hope that helps.

I got out early monday around 6am. Was so nice out I just hung out for hours. Once the tide was moving in good around noon I hooked up four one got away. They were all keepers. The bite stopped around 1pm the storm clouds were moveing in hard and it was just to dark for them to see well.

Hey, Hell Cat 171. I can help you with your technique. But be warned, if you get the casting disease, one rod won't be enough, and probably 5 or 6 won't be enough. After you've gone through $500/$600 in reels, you might have one you really like. That rod you saw me break a couple of weeks ago was a $400 custom. So let's get together sometime where the wind is at our backs, and maybe you can catch the casting disease from me.

Chefpomp, that reminds me of a fourth constant for me. Time. I seem to always be out b/n 6-12. I'll sleeping in and catching the moving water.

Surfish, sounds good. Lets keep an eye on an upcoming weekend and get together.
