Default Live bait and grass

Im planning on trying for a shark tommorow afternoon / night (well away from the tourists dont worry), and i was planning on catching some lady fish and trying them. With their tale cut, what is their depth?

I was just wondering if i should set up a float on my shark leader to keep it out of the grass, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

BTW ill be kayaking the bait out past second

just to clarify , my question was whether or not a rigged ladyfish will sink, or should i use a float to keep it up out of the nastiness thats washed in
