I loaded Logan up and met a buddy of mine from work Chris (also a PFF'r) at Archie Glover Boat Ramp. Weather looked nice and we headed out to Garcon Point. We threw gulps along the bridge, and had some hits but no catches:doh Well I was about to anchor down to try the white trout and throw some shark lines out when we noticed lightning to the north and some dark clouds. The weather "appeared" to be heading towards us to the east so off to 3 Mile we went...After getting near the bridge we looked to the north again andrecon what we saw???The storm was almost on top of us so under the bridge we went. Waves started rolling in with some 3's possibly 4's hitting. I managed to keep the boat under the bridge a good bit then after banging into a few pilings of the bridge we decided to beach the boat behind the Holiday Inn in Gulf Breeze. The waves were crashing my boat further and further onto the shore and after a lot of grunting :hotsun we were able to get her back floating so we shagged arse!!! The bay was starting to settle with 2-3 rollers so we kept between the bridge and old fishing bridge and Chris managed to pull in a Skip-jack. No hits all the way up to the wreck on the bridge so back to Garcon we went again. As we got closer to Garcon the bay smoothed out again so we were hoping to anchor down and throw out some shark rigs:clap We saw lightning and more rain coming so we started to head to East Bay, and go figure, it started following us again:banghead:banghead:banghead So then I decided it was time to go back to Archie Glover to load her up:boo Little did I know a HURRICANE was in between us!!!:reallycrying We about had to idle back in 5-6 ftr's:reallycrying:reallycrying:reallycrying I saw more sky and rain then bay and was worried about Logan up front. He took it purty good but I know I was worried so he was scared to death:reallycrying I was very proud of him though, he never got sick and really never complained. We were probably less then a mile to theI10 bridge and COULD NOT SEE IT!!! The rain was sooooooo hard but finally the bay was calmer so we picked up the speed which made the rain feel even better:doh
I'm big enough to say I was scared a few times....can't really say it was because my 10 year old was with me cause I still would have been if he wasn't there!!! It was a good test fer my boat in the conditions and I thought she performed purty good. We were all wearing our PFD's and hope to never get caught off guard like that again...Ohhh by the way what happened to no rain till Friday when it was supose to be 40%???:banghead It's WONDERFUL that we just finished working 7 days straight, and haven't had a drop of rain....but then load up the ride to go fishing and it turns to crap:banghead:banghead:banghead I usually take a lot of :takephoto when I fish but I wasn't going to trash a $$$ camera so sorry!!!:letsdrink:letsdrink:letsdrink |

Jason,
I sat here on Garcon Point yesterday afternoon and saw the storm come past us from the north. I drove home in it comingfrom work. Once it past I started working on the boat. Then I looked south and the clouds were coming back at me from the south. The wind and clouds literally did a 180 and came back on me. I was in the middle of working on the boat with tools everywhere. I had to finish and pick up in the rain. That was one nasty afternoon pop up shower. Glad you made it in ok. It's never fun to be out in the rain like that especially when the lightning was popping like it was. |

WOW! Sounds like a real nail biter! Iguess if you go out enuff, it's gonna happen. I've been in something similar (probably not as bad), and the lightning was the scariest part for me. Glad you made it back safe, which is all that REALLY matters. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully your story will remind us of how things can change quickly, even in the bay!

No kidding that storm came outta no where. I live on the water by the I10 bridge and that lightening was very close. So close that the lamp on my night stand that was turned off flickered one time, you know when the thunder and lighteneing hit at the same time.
Glad you guys got back safe man, that was a doosie that came out of no where. |

Ya'll are very fortunate Jason. I was going across 3 mile around 4:30 Tuesday afternoon and the water was calm on the GB side, but as I was going accross, I could see the rain coming. The fellow in front of me had a garden cart and some other tools in the back of his truck that just exploded into the air as a large gust of wind from the leading edge of the storm hit us. His stuff went everywhere and the waves were already beginning to kick up a good 3' - 4' chop with a very short interval between them. I'm really glad everyone is all right...

I was driving over the 90 bridge that day and saw about 15 air to ground lightening strikes over the bay. I was thinking, "oh God, I hope there aren't any boaters in that". Sorry to here that you had to go through it(let alone your boy), but at least everything worked out.
