My first winter fishing here. I see lots of recent sheeps and reds posts - thanks! - but are there any specks this time of year? Headed out this weekend at pcola pass.

I've never caught a speck in the pass usually I find them in northern part of the bays or river mouths.

I can second oxsbeast210's assessment. I have pretty good luck up in the rivers and mouths where they dump into the bays for specks.

Would like to get off the gulf beach and get into some trout myself. What rigs, baits and/or lures are you guys catching them on in the river mouths?

Can someone please tell me best place to put in also? I live in Holley by the Sea and see the ramps on 87, would this be ideal place to drop and head to bay? Remember, I am the rere with the 20' pontoon in the gulf the past few weeks ( hoping the a-hole in the bada$$ yellow sailfish who pulled up on me last weekend asking if we knew what we were doing trolling 3 lines SE from the jetties is reading this, just because your boat is bigger and better eat it chump, you came out with no rods and we came home with dinner!) he didn't like the fact we have been doing this in other countries since we could walk but another story on another board!

This time of year it can be very shallow I don't recommend launching on 87 . Usually I launch at oyster Pyle ramp in Baghdad .
Please be careful it can get shallow quick in the bay |

Reports look horrible but you never know til you see for yourself, we went into the gulf on a 3-5 ft report last weekend, if you go to my post Thank You Guys you will see we were in 1-2 at worst switch a flat calm sea. But we've also seen 2' reports and came home in 8 so..... Gotta be conscious
