Default Thursday Night 3 Mile Bridge

Ashley and I decided to make a trip at the last minute last night due to the beautiful weather. We left the house at about 8:30 and hit 17th by 9:00. The moon was pretty bright, the wind was non existent, and the bay was SMOOOOTH. It was a beautiful night, with a fast incoming tide. We anchored up at one of my favorite places, and fished for about an hour with nothing but baby white trout. So, we moved down to another spot that is a bit deeper and anchored up. Ashley landed a small bluefish, and so did I.....and I had my Diawa 7000c that is spooled with 30lb test with me....so I quickly added about 3 foot of 60 lb mono and a 12 steel leader with a nice big hook. We took and butterflied one of the blues chunked it in and waited. We continued to fish the sides of the boat with gulp, while we let the blue fish soak. It didn't take long and the diawa goes bump..bump..bump. I picked it up out of the rod holder and put just a bit of pressure on it and zoom, drag is running. I let him run for a bit and tightened the drag some and started gaining some line back....when :banghead :banghead slack line....he ate the steel leader. So, I am re-rigging for another shot when I hear a small voice from the front of the boat say "baby?" I look over my shoulder and see Ashley bowed up with her drag screaming like a banshii. I drop what I am doing and hurry to her, meanwhile half her spool is out and the drag has not stopped. Just as I get to her and help her adjust the drag on the penn 103cc she is using I see in the next patch of bridge light, that is about 150 yards away what looked like a 5 or 6 foot tarpon leap into the air just under the bridge. Well you can guess what happened next. It was probably at least a 60 lb fish and she hooked it with a 3 inch new penny shrimp, on 15 lb test line. After the fish broke off, the reel was actually hot to the touch from the friction. To me it looked like she had a jet ski on the line, it was crazy. Well I finished rigging up the shark rig, and Ash put another jig head on herpenn, after she reeled in line for what seemed like 5 minutes. I tossed another bleeding bluefish out and stuck the diawa in the rod holder and a couple minutes later bump...bump....BOWED UP!!!!!The fish was headed straight out behind the boat, I let him run for a while andmade a few minor adjustments to the drag. I pulled up and felt him turn, and realized he had some size to him. Next he ran straightback at us, so I reeled for all I was worth. He turned again about half way back and pulled more drag. I finally got himalong side the boat and Ash handed me my gaff, and snapped a quick pic

After a brief struggleI gaffed him and in the boat he came. Peaches was not happy about that. Here are the pics

Next it was Ashley's turn on the shark rig. The bait of choice 1/2 of a small skipjack, with some slashes cut in it. I was jigging my jerk shad when I glanced up and saw Ash reaching for the diawa. Just as she pulled it out of the holder it bowed up nicely, and thedrag began towhine. It was taking line almost as fast as the tarpon did. She had been fighting him for 3 or 4 minutes and then slack line :banghead :banghead :banghead She handed me the line in frustration and said you reel it in this time, I looked at the spool, and it was 1/2 empty. We both hung about 3or 4 sharks each, but we onlymanaged to get one in the boat.I had one nice one to the side and he gotme in the prop, and several others just shookthehook.Ashley also caught a 19 inch white trout (the largest one I have ever seen.) I will post a pic of it later. We had a great night and caught alot of fish. Thanks for reading.

Good luck, and good fishing.

Hey sounds like you and the lady had a nice time on the water, sharky was keeping you pretty busy. Good job getting that one in the boat.
