Default Thursday March 27th Report w/ Pics

Well, I was pretty excited to be taking my newly reworked john boat out fishing after I got it back from The Maintenance Shoppe. Me and JEC were under way from Galvez Landing ato six hundred. First stop was at Captain John's spot near the mouth of thepass. We readon the forum that the rangers were letting people fish some around the pier, so when we didn't get bit right away at the first spot we left for the pier. We goteaten alive there by pinfish with some blues and an occasional spanish, which is hard to do when bottom fishing with shrimp- the spanish I mean. We tried some of CaptainWes's driftingspots and someanchor upfishing spots- still skunked. We headed back to the pier. Still getting skunked. Well, I decided I was going to try and outthink the fish, so I re-rigged with a stealth set up. Next thing you know it was on. I tried to break my new Texas Tackle Factory trout killer rod, but it held up. I was having to cup my spool to stop fish from taking me into the pier. We had hell with the anchor once the wind picked up, but we managed a nice stringer. The best part was when the pompano showed up.I read in FL Sportsman that the pompano bite can start quick and be frantic, then shut down just as quick. JEC and I put 3 in the boat during that period. It was cool watching the pomps swim with theirhooked brethren too- like cobes. We had fun and caught a few big sheepies. JEC got a nice spaniard too. Bluefish were a pain in the tail as usual. We ran back in right after lunch because we were running low on bait and a little tired. I decided I need a bigger boat to do that type of fishing, but have no idea what to do about it since where I live you have to keep your boat out of sight and my 14 fills up the garage, so something larger would not fit. Suggestions welcome on that- maybe a trailer tongue that folds or something? Here are some pics...

Yours truly with our stringer...

JEC with all the fish I caught- just kidding Jamie...

JEC with our biggest pompano- nice view of the waterfront park in my neighborhood in the background

Hope y'all enjoyed the post as much as we enjoyed the fishing...mdrobe2 (Mike)

Great report thanks for sharing!

You are right about the Pompano being hot then cold. One time a while back, 8 or 9 years,I was wade fishing at Ft. Pickins about 50 yds north of the pier with frozen shrimp when a school pomps came through. I had an absolute blast for about an hour. I soon as the bait hit the water I was hooked up. Then like a light sitch they were gone.

Nice mess of fish. glad to see the Pomps at Pickens. I have the same problem with the boat so I just pay the storage area fees $360 a year to store the cape.

Hey Mike! great looking stringer. They r in that deep water...Capt John crushed them yesterday but was having to use 8 oz to keep it on the bottom!

Nice sheeps and pomps!

There are places you could keep a bigger boat, and for less money than a marina. Some of the ship yards come to mind.

I'm glad there isn't a home owners association in my neighborhood, we've got boats parked everywere in plain sight.:letsdrink Why would anyone have a problem with a boat in the front yard? If you ask me it just adds to the curb apeal.
