Launched about 6:30 at shoreline park, brought my better half. We started fishing at the first pier before the bridge and fished back towards the boat ramp. You could not see the bridge, fog was THICK!

I tied up a red jig head and a root beer gulp for my better half. I started rigging my line with a gold weedless spoon, not 10 seconds into it my girl hooks up on a flounder, 10-11 inches. I was excited, with a great start. I threw the spoon for a little with no luck so I switched to gulp and threw another line out with live shrimp. We passed another pier and something blew up on something twice so we trolled back and my girl threw out the live shrimp and with in seconds again she hooked up on a 18 inch speck. Mean while I was still throwing and throwing with NOTHING AT ALL. Once we hit all the piers we went on to Sikes around 830-9, threw gulg and fiddlers. I had 2 nibbles on my gulg but it felt like pin fish. We then headed to 3 mile. Started on the east side of the hump, first bridge wreck by the channel. Threw the gulp and it was very slow again. I threw out the live shrimp and I got a bite pretty quick but lost it, small troout. Then threw again and caught another small white trout. Threw out some cut bait and live shrimp while jigging the gulp and we didnt get another bite. Moved closer to the gulf breeze side and again nothing. A guy by us did catch a good red 24-26 probably, not sure what he was using though.

We heading in around 12:30, 12 ft carolina skiff didnt like the winds and radidly changing water conditions. Nice early, nasty late. Got a little hairy right at the end, especially when the boat stalled right when a huge boat passed us and 2-3 foot seas popped up. FUN LET ME TELL YOU, CAN YOU SAY WATER IN BOAT. It wasnt that bad but I sure wouldnt have wanted it any worse. All in all I had a crap day, but I am proud of my girl she did great considering I dont thing a lot of people had banner fishing days.

Thanks for the report - glad your better half had some fun. Sorry about the dunking but hey - you were fishing - beats working which is what I did most of the day.

The bay can really turn nasty in a hurry especially in a low freeboard skiff. I took a wave over the bow in my key west bay boat and just filled it up in a second. That was in the bay. If the motor had stalled on me it could have gotten ugly. I believe you would have done a lot better around those docks if you would have had a little more water. Just wondering if you tried the docks closer todeer point? There is a nice deep trough there that is pretty good. Thanks for taking the time to post a report on a day that was not top notch. Once the tides switch around with this warm weather the fishing will take off.

Forgive me but I am new to the area. What and where is deer point lol. Is that when you head towards the pass and you can turn right going towards 3mile? If so, no we did not try there. We just fished the piers to the left of shoreline up to the bridge and back.

How is the red fishing in this area? when is it good if so?

You are right, Deer point is the first point you curve around heading back into Pensacola bay. Those docks you tried usually are good for reds. You will do better with a gold sprite or sidewinder instead of those weedless spoons. When the tides are high the reds are way upinside the docks. You should cast up to where the sand ends and the grass begins. The trick then is going to be pulling them away from the docks. With the braided line you can do it. One thing there is plenty of in this area is redfish. Google earth is a good way to check out the various areas to fish.
