well set out from sherman cove with a good buddy and his son and went tot he jetties over on Ft Mcrae. we didn't even have the anchor set yet and his son hooked into a 36 in red on light tackle. That was the highlight of the day to see my buddies son who is 9 or 10 years old play that redfish. I had a blast coaching him. my buddy and I could see it in his eyes that he wanted to yank back on the rod and try and wrestle that fish to the boat but he took our advice and let him run himslef tired. I wish I had a camera. anyhow we left there and went out to the Mass. lots of fish swimming around but no one was hungry there. headed back into the pass and had to stop. You could have walked on the water with the amount of baitfish ( fingerling ladyfish). I dropped a sabiki and they were like piranha swarming on the rig. I was pulling 10 to 12 up at a time and filled the baitwell in about 5 drops. went back over to Mcrae and didn't have a single bit just snagged an old busted up crab trap. headed home when bait ran out and was eating dinner by 7 pm. heading out again tommorow to see if we can do a little better. hope to see you out there.

That is really interesting about the small skipjacks [ladyfish]. They would make unbelievable snapper baits. If you get into them like that again you ought to brine them up and save them for snapper season. Just take some rock salt with you and mix it with some ice and you will have some great baits.

bladeco, Good tip on the Sabiki rig. I've been having a time getting live bait, so that's a good idea. And funny,my heaviest pull down all day was an oldcrab trap too.
