A friend and I got on the water before daylight and quickly found a good top water speck bite but it only lasted for about 30 minutes or less. The rest of the morning consisted of a lot of moving to different spots and only picking up a couple of specks at each spot. The biggest fish of the day was a speck with an estimated weight of 3.5 lbs and another speck was caught that weighed a solid 3 lbs on the boga grip. We caught a few more specks that measured 17-19 inches. Overall it was a slow bite and we really had to work for the fish we put in the boat.
Final count: 12-15 specks with only 2 or 3 fish under 15 inches no redfish tons of bluefish and some of them bigger than average All fish were caught on super spooks, flukes, and a mirrolure catch 2000. |

If you were using Gulp you would have loaded the boat.

Between trout, bluefish, skipjacks, and pinfish I went through about 2 packs of flukes today which cost me about $5. Two packs of flukes is equivalent to 4 packs of gulps which would have cost me about $25. I can't afford to use gulps.

Do you use the swim flukes or the regular?

You should give Zman baits a try. I fished Grand Lagoon the other day and caught over 15 trout, 2 bluefish, and a redfish on the same bait. They run $6/pack with 5 baits in each pack. They are the most durable baits on the market right now. Check Hot Spots, they stock them.

I use the regular 5 inch fluke but I do have a pack of the swimming flukes.
I definitely have considered using the Z-man baits. Which ones have you been using? The paddlerzs look like they would be good bait for this area. |

I've consider the Z-man baits too. I might pick up some Friday.
