Default July 4 Escambia Bay

The wife and I got on the water at 5 am.Today I was scouting new spots. So I did my studying on Google maps last night and found some underwater points and flats.Pulled up to the first spot and started casting a spook.A couple casts in I caught a 15'' speck. The next cast my bait got crushed by a 30'' red.I caught a few more peckerhead specks and decided to change spots.Started fishing the new spot with the spook still and caught a few more specks 13''-18'' and probably had 10 more miss the bait. The specks were very sluggish today and biting very nonshalant.Moved spots again and caught a few more mid-slot specks and lost a good one down an uneven bottom bank.Headed to my last spot of the day, which was a deep trough that ran right next to the bank.I was catching 15''-18'' specks just about every other cast on a Gulp jerkshad. It was pretty cool to,I had a speck on and a redfish swam up to him and made a swipe at the jerkshad in the specks mouth about 5' from the boat.I would have gladly taken that trade. It was a good day of fishing and pretty rewarding for me to find some new productive spots.Final tally 20+/- specks and a 30'' red.

I know you won't believe it but I had a catch 2000 on and even casted it about 10 times and of course didn't catch anything

I'm fishing with the Catch 2000 guru tomorrow. He will start the morning by throwing a top water for about 5 casts then he will switch over to the catch. However, he does catch a lot of fish and some really big trout. He caught this one on a catch jr. while fishing with me last summer.

It's a subsurface bait made by mirrolure...junk stick with a spook or jerkshad!
