My fishing partner Tony Johnson and I got off work friday morning and decided to take the boat out to Garcon Point bridge to see if we could catch a few fish. Launched from Nichols and headed out. Rough Going. 2 to 5 foot swells, but we were determined. Hooks in the water at about 0900. For the next three hours we caught 24 white trout, 14 ground mullits and 12 croakers. TJ said we needed to get closer to the channel. He was right. He cast out with dead shrimp on the hook and BAM.... he got a serious hit. Didn't know what it was but it headed to the pilings. Moved the boat away and after about 15 minutes, he brought in a 38" 11 lb. black drum. He later added a 34" spanish mac. We came on back about 1600. The fish we caught were worth the beating our bodies took from the surf. And to me, that was a good day fishing. New to the forum. My first Post.

Very nice. I live right by that bridge and can never catch a damn thing around that bridge. I don't know if I just can't find the holes or what. Anyone want to give some advice about catching anything around there?
Very nice fish by the way. It's good to hear that the spanish are moving this far up finally. |

I wish you would have taken a pic of that spanish. A 34" spanish is a serious fish. Good job on gutting it out on a tough weather day!
