Default Blackwater Bay Sunday Afternoon 10.05.08

I rebuilt my topcarburetor Sunday morning, and decided to take her out for a test run. Ashley, Peachesand I put in at the shell pile at a little after 5. The boat ran great so we headed for the bay. I spotted the birds so I bee lined for 'em and they were snacking on some small glass minnows. We tossed out some 3 inch new pennys on ultralight tackle just to see if anything was under the bait. As soon as Ashley got her line tight she was on with a decent white trout, next Ash again this time a nice Speck!!! It was probably around 18 inches but I didn't bring my cooler that I use to measure fish so thats just a guess. Next it was my turn with a nice speck, and then ash again with another even bigger speck. We didn't fish for very long, maybe an hour and we caught fish the whole time. Plenty of trout out there in Blackwater Bay right now, just find the bait. I didn't take any fish pics since it was a short trip to test the boat, but here is one of peaches swimming in the river.

Blackwater Bay seems to be getting a littlemore active, or maybe I was just lucky for a change, anyway if its close to you, like it is for me, giveit a shot I have caught fish the last3 timesI've been out there.

Good luck and good fishing.

I'm still in the scouting and testing stage for the area myself Brad, but I will be out there at least twice a week. Any info I get I will be happy to share with you. From the look of your trip this weekend, I should be asking you for some tips!!!

Thanks Glastronix!!!!! I love wade fishing in the Winter. The colder the better.

Blackwater just seems like it would be a super winter spot. Is it really muddy?

Not too muddy, but it depends on the spot and of course the amount of rain and what not. For the most part the water has been fairly clear lately, and I have seen quite a few folks out floundering so the visibility must be decent.

:doh. Sorry, I was asking about the bottom material....Muddy or sandy. Sorry for the confusion

The bottom is fairly sandy and firm for the most part, but I have found some really muddy places. The spots that are muddy seem to be around areas where small creeks, streams and slews feed into the bay. I got out and waded throwing my bait net last weekend in a few different spots and it was all pretty sandy. But I also noticed I pulled up alot of mud ina coupleofplaces I anchored in. Seems pretty firm for the most part.

Glad to hear that you got your motor straightened back out. Maybe it won't give you anymore problems. As far as the bottom material Glastronix your right. It all depends on where you are at. Most of it is a pretty even mix that is semi firm, but there are several places that are also gumbo mud.
