Default 8/19 Orange Beach area

I took my son out to try some trolling out of Perdido Pass this am. It was a bit windier and choppier than I expected based on the NOAA report. Since we're fishing from a 22' bay boat, and are inexperienced at trolling we stayed near the pass. My son is only 11 so I;m very cautious.

We pulled a Yozuri minnow, stretch 25 and spoon. We caught two undersized kings (Our first kings- both 23") on the stretch, and got bit off once on the minnow. The kings were just outside the pass. Even though they were small it was exciting catching them for the first time.

I was having a very hard time getting the stretch 25's to run straight. They would go to the side and eventually up to the surface. I tried to see if I could tune them the same as a crankbait but I didn't have any luck. Since I'm new at doing haywire twists (don't use them much bass fishing...) I'm wondering if I'm causing the stretch to run crooked with a bad leader connection. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

After a while (and frustration with the stretch) we ran inshore to Ingram's bayou and tried for trout. We threw DOAs foran hour and only got one undersized speck and a catfish.

I have a lot to learn about fishing this area. Unfortunately I only have a few days left before it's back to Austin, and bass fishing.

Even though the fishing has been tougher than our last visit, we're still having a great time here.
