Default 5 July A.M report

Dawna(gf) and i splashed at Woodlawn @ around 0500. Ran west looking for some topwater action. Winds were out of the Northwest pretty stiff so the area we had planned to fish was blown out. We headed back over to the north side of the sound, and set up a long easterly drift in around 2' of water. Dawna threw a Zara Spook in Bone color, while I threw D.O.A 1/4 oz. Glow Shrimp.

A few blow up later on Dawna's top I hooked a small 15" Flounder that went on the ice. That was the first Flounder of the season for us!!!!! A few minutes later I hooked a 19 1/2" Speck after switching to a D.O.A Red Flake shrimp. Now I am 2/3's the way to an Inshore slam, we switched gears hard, tolooking for Redfish.

We had to be off the water by 11 am so time was a little short. We ran hard back to the East to a deep hole I have been catching someunderslot reds at to try and find a keeper to finish the slam. Two more trout later a dink in the 13" range and a small keeper in the 16" range we had to pull up and head home to get me ready to fly back to Houston!!!!

So no slam but a fun quick trip on the water with Dawna and a decent little flounder to stuff next weekend. I am in the airport in New Orleans now and will post the pistures when I et back home!!!!

Thanks bro, we had a blast. Last time out Dawna out fished me 3 to 1. I had to get serious today.( or lucky ). She's becoming a dang good fishing partner. Gonna hopefully get a full day in next Saturday when I get back home.:letsdrink

I usually have trouble getting a slam on the north side too. I'll get a red and some specks around the docks, but I haven't gotten the flounder in a while! I don't think I've caught a flounder this year either.

Thanks for the report.

It is surprising that you didn't get any red topwater action. You sure need to be trying either the little cleo or the gold sidewinder. Flounders love those little spoons. Just plop them down on a sandbar surrounded by grass and barely move them along. You will often catch pigfish doing this. No matter how big he is put him out under a float.A two pound speck will devour a handsize pigfish. I know from your posts that you are a lure guy but if your drifting along you can put mr. piggie under a float on a larger rod and reel. I have seen some humongus specks caught like this.
