Default The 1st GOOD Fish on our new boat! Sept. 8, 2008

Hubby and I launched out of Sander's Beach around 6:15pm and ran to the east side of the pass and anchored. I cast the new penny GULP a few times and didn't get a nibble. Finally, I cast and decided it could just sit there. We were eating our gourmet dinner.....ya know the drill....ham, mayo & bread!! The "CLICKER" isn't working on my med. sized PENN spinning reel and it caught my eye as it was almost doubled up!(( Recently, hubby found a shorter rod on clx at Wallyworld: about a 6.5 med. action surf rod. I couldn't cast the long rod from the confines of the boat.))

I thought I had a sailcat and tightened the drag not caring if it broke off or not. Hubby turned on the deck lights and, when that big REDFISH saw the lights, the fight was ON!!! He/she went under the boat, around the motor, back under the boat and anywhere other than where I was standing! Now, we have NO net or NO gaff! I'mLOUDLY telling hubby that he must get into the water and NOT lose this fish!!!((((((((((I'm dying here at this point!!!!!))))))))))

He gets down on the swimming platformand gets his gloved hands on this beauty! I'm still holding my breath 'cause he/she isn't ON the boat yet!The next question is THE SIZE!! Ok......we know it's gotta beSLOT......18-27". HE measured/I measured.....WE MEASURED............27" EXACTLY!!!

This fish was SO SO SO good for dinner tonite. If ya want my recipe, just PM me and I'll give it to you.

Mainly, I want to thank all of you for your posts and forhelping all of us catch fish. PFF is the greatest "TOOL" for anyone that is interested enuff to catch fish.

We are all so lucky to live in "God's country." I know several of ya'll..........I'm related to at least 2 of ya'll......and THANK YOU for all the hints, help.........and suggestions!!!

You got that right Mark. Its fun to sit down and read about somebody's fishing trip, what happened, what they caught, how they did it, etc. Thanks for the awsome post LWW cant wait to see some pics.

Nice post!

Why would you say it was so so? I have never eaten a redfish. Every one I have caught was huge and never in the slot. For a long time I was convinced that redfish were born at 28 inches long. :-)

Way to go on making a slot red your first catch. It is always interesting how you can sit there waiting on a fish, put the rod down to get something to eat and in mid bite it is fish on! After Ike blows thru and the seas ease off the full moon is coming on the fifteenth. You need to get out on a full moon night when it is slick.
