Had an opportunity to slip out this afternoon tosee if there were any flounder still hanging around. Left with my son just after hegot home from school at 2:00.
Half Hitch out of bullminnows so bought a few gulps and headed out to the gulf. Water temp. was 56 degrees with a slight southwest wind. Fishing in 58 feet of water and not having any luck with the gulps but getting a good show of bait, so decided to get out the sabiki rig to see if some could be caught. The bait turned out to be 3" long cigar minnows andthey were the ticket. As I was catching the cigs, my son was running them back down on a carolina rig with a 1 oz egg sinker, a 12 lb flourocarbon leaderwitha 3/0kale hook. Heended up catching five and we keptthree for dinner. Biggest was 20 inches while the others were all around 16. Back at the dock at 4:00 so it turned out to bea great afternoon, sure beats working. I am surprisedthe cigar minnows and flounder are still around this time of the year with the water temperature so low. Sorry we did not take a picture.:doh |

We were in the gulf fishing on structure and had the best bite on the down current side. The bait however was on the up current side. I think the key is the water depth and live bait. Good luck.

Scallopman I have been trying to find the flounder this fall. I would like to know if you were out of Destin or Panama City? I would think the snapper would give you a hard time with the cigs.Good job on finding the fish and good job on you and your son getting to spend some time on the water.
