Default Wintertime Fishing

Never been able to catch any fish during the winter months? Any suggestions on what to try and will the flats still produce?

Flats, no. Bayous, canals, upper bay estuaries produce. Always something in deeper bay waters though. 3 mile year round, especially at night.

I'm a novice but based on advice here, I went into the "delta" section of the upper Escambia bay / lower river a couple years ago the week after Christmas on a cold post-frontal bluebird day, and tried to find deep holes on the outside bends of the creeks that wind through the marsh grass; used weightless flukes in those deeper bends and worked them so slow I could watch my fingernails grow in between twitches. Basically letting a fluke weighted only by the hook sink 17 feet ... takes a while. But I did pick up some speckled trout that way. and surprised myself with a couple small bass in the same locations.

"Deeper bay waters" - no clue on that one, but still have a lot to learn.

Don't know anything about finding redfish during winter but I'm still working on that as well.

Just move into the rivers. Grubs, Mirrodines and live bait all work on both Specs and Reds. This is the best fishing time of the year over here.
