Default Reds and Specks in Orange Beach - where are they!

My father-in-law bought a place in OB last year.Despite a fair amount of effort, we've failed miserably at successfully catching decent reds and specks. We've tried the bridge at high/low tides at both daylight and dusk. We've tried the oyster reefs North of the bridge and even the one near Wolf Bay. We generally use carolina rigged live shrimp at the bridge and popping cork rigged live shrimp on the reefs. Still, we usually end up scratching our heads? What am I missing? Where are you folks fishing???

Should we give Little Lagoon a shot? Is the landing there easily accessible?

If youre fishing by boat then you guys should have hit a few trout in the early morning hrs at Wolf Bay....Try Terry Cove at night with different baits around the pier lights....Anywhere in cotton bayou should produce a few evenon a bad day.

OB28,

Don't feel bad, fishing is tuff in Perdido right now. You got two things really hurting you right now. First, I believe all the spring rains hurt the shrimp this year. Second, I fished Perdido last weekend and the surface temperture was 89 degrees. Iprefer not to float a live shrimp under a slip cork, but that's thebest way to catch fish during day light hours right now. You could try finding deepholes (10 plusft) and just drift theshrimpa fewfeet of the bottom.Or, go to wolf bayearly in the morning or late afternoon and try a crankbait, popping cork, or swim bait around open water ledgeswherethere's a drop from around 3ft to 6 ft or more.

I just got off thephone with a friend who's been fishing of the pier at the wharf and catching a good mixed bag. He's using3 inch gulp shrimp on a jig head. You could run on down to Mobile Bay I'd bet fishing is better over there. Btw... The fishing is amazing a few hundred yards off the beaches right now. Troll a 6 to 8 inch shallow diving crankbait. It's not trout and reds...hold on.

Go to Top Gun Tackle or Mo Fishin and talk to them, they can help you.Swallow yourpride and tell them you're starting from scratch. You should seriously consider taking a guide one day($400), he'll show you a handful of spots and you'll get to pick his brain for 4hrs. Get up early and make note of where you see the guide boats, they are out there every day and know where the fish are. The heat had absolutely affected the fishing, it was on fire a month ago and is more difficult now.

Do you have a boat?

Perdido is actually doing good right now, there are shrimp out there... the other day I was letting my boys play with the net near the grass flats and they would pull up a dozen or so small...tiny... shrimp in the net... I have limited out on trout in that area....
