I'm new to the area. What/where are some good places to fish by foot?

There is Pensacola Beach Pier, Bob Sykes Bridge, and tons of shore line. What area did you move to? Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, Navarre, Milton, Pace?

Have you had any luck along the shoreline of the Ft. Pickens area?

The bite will be slower but you can catch pompano along there, along with reds, black drum, blue fish, whiting, and sometimes bonita. I haven't been out there in a little while so I can't tell you how they are biting right now.
