catch those pinfish and use them as bait under a popping cork. thats how you catch the big'uns.

That's the way to do it. Bring 2 rods with you, one rigged with a cork, 2-4ft 20lbs leader and a #1 - 1/0 circle hook. When you catch a pinfish, grunt, croaker, etc. hook him in the back just behind the head and toss him out behind the yak and forget about him till you hear the reel scream and keep screaming. Be sure to leave the drag LOOSE, if it's tight you risk ripping the hook out and/or having the rod yanked out of the holder. Once a good fish eats and starts pulling drag, slowly and smoothly increase drag tension to put a bend in the rod which will set the hook. DO NOT JACK HIM UP!

For more specific kayak fishing info, scroll down further on the main forum page till you get here: http://www.pensacolafishingforum.com/f13/

Good luck,
Alex

Try Big Lagoon State Park. They have a kayak launch that is very near to lots of grass flats covered up with reds and specks. It's a good place to start. Plenty of finger mullet to be caught around there for bait too.
