Default How does a VS 100 do inshore?

Ran across a deal on a VS 100, not sure if its a Zebco or not. My question is how are they to inshore fish with? With 10 pound sufix braid casting for trout and redfish and stuff? Would the manual bail get annoying? Is the reel too heavy? :usaflag

If your not used to a manual you might not like it at first. I love mine though

I love mine for inshore fishing, but they are a bit heavy and overkill on 90% of the stuff in the bay

For sure buy the reel if the price is right. They are one tough little reel. Not the best though for pure inshore fishing. They have a crosswind system for laying the line on the spool. The shimano reels or daiwa reels do a lot better job oflevelwinding the line on the spool. That means a lot in casting distance and cutting down on wind knots. Where that reel shines is in the Gulf catching whatever you want, kings, snappers, triggers etc. I bought one thinking I would use it as an inshore reel but I had too much trouble with the line slipping underneath the spool. I love it though for freelining snapper up in the water. Put some 20 to 30 pound braid on it and it will catch just about anything. The line capacity on that reel is something else.

I have it on a 7'6" med heavy calcutta and it is my goto rod for big trout fishing casue it throws a large bait really well and for redfishing around structure. Wrighttackle is correct about it being fun in the gulf I love king fishing with it and catching black snappers when you have them chummed up
