Default GoPro questions for PVC mount

I'm always wade fishing solo and I'm going to try the GoPro PVC mount to get better pictures. I understand the whole set up but are y'all adding anything to the pipe to keep in place better or just sticking it in the substrate. Also, are y'all pulling stills from video footage or is there another way to take stills without actually pushing the button. The pictures I'd like to take are basically just me holding the fish as if someone else was taking the pic. Just looking for some tips and guidance from the guys that do this regularly. Thanks.

Forgot to ask...what is the length of the pipe y'all have found that works best. I strictly wade fish so y'all pretty much know the depths I'm at. I'm guessing 1" pipe works best?

I used 1" PVC for mine, 5' long, cut an angle on the end and then stake it in the ground to record video. I used a 1" cap(flat not rounded) and a 1" male adapter. Screw the mount to the cap and screw cap on adapter/pole when wanting to take video. I take photos off videos by taking screenshots with my phone, but the app allows pictures off of videos with better quality. There's a photo option on the camera as well that works great.

Thanks Jeff, that's the info I was looking for. After I actually read the manual I saw that the camera had the time lapse photo feature. That'll work well for me. Just set the interval and I'm good to go. Now maybe I can start posting reports. Just wanted some good pics to go along with it. The fish selfie thing was getting old.
