Default Blue fish

was thinking about going around the 3mb this weekend (my brother is comming into town)and trying to catch some fish, a buddy of mine was telling me about catching "blue fish" he said use a steel leader and some dead shrimp...did a search on here and came up with the same info, but i was wondering if it is best to go at night orearly in the morning ?? can someone tell mewhat would be the best way to rigthe weight andsteel leader ?? also any opinions onhook size ??any help is greatly appreciated

i would not use steel leader but that is my own opinion. i would just use a heavy mono leader and change it when needed. i fish out of dauphin island and the blues bite real good at night on squid or cut bait. we just carolina rig it. also using mono leader you up your chance on catching snapper and such. during the day, throw something silver and catch them like spoons, gotchas, etc....

I would use the dead shrimp to catch larger pin fish, then throw the larger pin fish back out there. He may bite the fish in half without getting the hook, but he will keep coming back and take the hook. I would use a circle hook and if your not going to use steel leader, it better be a real heavy mono leader!

thanks for the info, we went this morning and didnt find any blues, found a couple of spade fish and a ton of croker though...
