I felt somewhat like the kids. Glad to have the time to see neighbors, cook out, help each other etc. Everyone seems more appreciative of the camaraderie and has time to visit. Too bad it takes a disater to make it happen.

Island, I now exactly what you mean.

Since posting I have been thinking about it, and since I have an anniversary coming up and was wanting to do something different....I thought; bam, block party!!

I hope it kicks!!

This would be a good time to put all of old family photos that you have to put on a disc/flash drive . This is the one thing that I've heard people say that they wish they would have done before a disaster !

Lock the doors, secure the hurricane shutters, and drive North.
Hope for the best but don't lose your life or live in misery for weeks.
If you have the means get out of the way of the big wind.
Choose to stay if you must, but think about why you must NOW.
Then plan accordingly.
This from a 3-storm survivor.

As long as you can keep it dry. I lost an external hard drive with photos that I had lost already once before. Now I keep a back-up to my back-up.

Probably the best advise. I stayed through two and won't do it again. Also, make the decision to leave early. Everything gets crowded and jammed. Had a friend tell me about his night in the bathtub with his dog and the mattress over them while the roof was being blown off. They where both scared chitless. Go, you can always come back.
