[QUOTE=Cola Boy;646120]Yea TD has some really good ideas, I'm with Wolf, I am preparing to be on my own for at least 2 weeks, even longer, I have a backpack that I keep with me always, it has a mini maglite, a GI Tritium compass, a flint striker, some can openers, an emergency blanket, a 5'' fixed blade RAT survival knife, a painters mask, 2 shemaghs, and my .45 with some mags. My vehicle keeps an axe, hatchet, machete, tool box, coveralls, boots, and a ghili suit (don't ask). I have individual specific items stocked and I try to keep at least 10 gallons of filtered water on hand also. What I'm lacking is a packed first aid/trauma kit, some 2 way radios, and some kind of power source. I have been stocking ammo, just because I heard it was the currency of the new millennium, and got a few tactical items incase we loose all semblance of law. A good exit strategy is also important. Im nowhere close to feeling totally secure, but I have tons more than most people I know.[/QUOTE

www.e-firstaidsupplies.com is a good place to get a first aid kit i paid 35 bucks for the one i have . its a metal one i like it because its sturdy and also can be reused . a fire arm is good to have if your staying in your state how ever you may come across some legal problems going across state line .

I am not sure how many of you know about Re-Build Northwest Florida. It is a FEMA backed program that will strenghten home for hurricanes. They will strap your trusses, replace your garage doors and install hurricane shutters. FEMA pays for 75% and you pay 25%. Email me if you want more info.

Wow thats still in play? I figured with the budget cuts it was long gone. Everyone needs to call them. They will also do closed cell foam SWR and give you a wind mitigation form which will lower insurance rates after they complete the work. All wind mitigation discounts except roof shape will be met once they are done which will lower insurance rates big time. This is the best deal in the country! Last time I checked in with them there was not a income requirement which means 75% off for anyones home that is their primary residents.

Fill your tubs to the top with water...

It's not for drinking, it's for flushing the toilet if the water gets cut off.

Tell the boys to pee outside, tell the girls...

"If it's yellow, let it mellow... if it's brown flush it down"

Jugs of water for sure...we keep our milk jugs...clean them out REAALLLLLYYY good and store them...when it's that time, fill most of them up...1/2 fill the rest and freeze...you can still drink the water in it AND it'll help keep whatever food you have left cool...Also, something I didn't see anyone say are all of your important papers...Insurance docs, health ins. cards, etc...I have mine in a fireproof hand carryable safe...and the papers themselves are in a gallon ziplock...I have a large backpack prepared for a no crap bugout...just grab and go...it has basic survival itmes in it...including cottonballs covered in vaseline...it'll catch fire even when wet (something I learned at survival school). Also, power will be out more than likely...so have some bug repellent (Enough for at least a week...) available...if it's a cat 4 or 5...I'm outta here anyway...I'll stay for a 3 or less.

So I have been on this for some months now, and have a rather large cache. I have been taking a bushcraft approach to the subject and broke everything down to the 5 c's of survivability, cutting, combustion, container, cover/clothing, and cordage. If I have to leave the house during an emergency situation, I have a few plastic totes full of non-perishable food. I have tried to keep everything as mobile as possible, so I can grab and go if I need to. So I have three packs that have all of the 5 c's plus a first aid kit, you could survive rather well with one of the packs for a week or more off in the woods, even without any of the food I have. I will put a vid up of my small pack in a few days.

For me it's grab the guns and go to work. I work for the electric company here in Galveston Tx. (30 yrs.) and have to show up. Hopefully all storms turn out into the Atlantic and just go away . We had Alicia when I just hired on and was young in 83 and Ike 08 25 years later 16 hour day liked to kill this old guy. Go on line and look at Advanced Auto generators they are loud , but you can get one for 299
