My ideal set up would be the shipping container with the hatch on the top, buried all the way in, on land that would not flood, with a concealed periscope, air vent on top. Access to a well, and some way of having electricity, perhaps deep cycle batteries and a method to charge them. I once thought about a human sized hamster wheel inside that could be used to charge to batteries, pump water, and power a fan to move air. I would also add a makeshift septic tank out of 55 gallon barrels buried outside the container. Redundant systems would be a must with a project like this, i.e. a second or third air vent. But not placed next to each other, so as not to draw attention. Also, perhaps a double hatch system, where you have to open a hatch to get to the main hatch. Outside hatch opens out, and inside hatch opens in, so that your inside hatch locking system is on the inside of the container, and cannot be tampered with from the outside.

Not free. but you can buy single use ones that are super clean and ready to live in.
Much more floor plan efficient than a cylinder.
I was thinking a train car shipping container as well and putting it completley underground with one or two pyramid shaped 1" glass viewing kinda windows above ground for light and sight. There is a movive called " The Road" that had something similar but without the windows because I think it was more of a old bomb shelter.

Cool idea and may be very usefull for other reasons in the future.

If anything is underground, you better have a pump of some sort!
