Default RE: Generators

If you have a main breaker disconecton your pannel you can hook your generator to your pannel and run important things. Just make sure the main breaker is off b/c it would cause a back feed and be dangerous to the Gulf Power guys and you is you have your generator hooked to your pannel when they turn the power back on. I hook mine into the washer breaker b/c its larger. That will become your main while your power is out and the other smaller breakers will be used as normal. Be 100% sure that your main breaker were the Gulf Power feed comes in is OFF and it will be fine. I don't think this is legal but it works last minute.

Default RE: Generators

So are you pulling the wires out of your dryer breaker (outlet side) and wiring the generator into the outlet side of the dryer breaker?

Thus feeding power thru the dryer breaker backwards?

Will the breaker still trip when used backwards?

I go whole hog and pull the glass dome meter out of it's socket. My generator cables have copper tangs on the ends which are bolted to the ends of wooden broom handle sections. I then plug the tangs into the open lugs on "my side" of the meter. Nobody is gonna walk by and trip the main breaker back and backfeed to the grid by mistake.

That is what I do, remove the meter, then there is no chance of back feeding. The Gulf Power people came to check prior to turning the power back on and made me plug in it back in and disconnect the generator from the meter pan. Then they put a new clip on it.

That would be great. I never thought or knew you could remove the meter. But to answer your question yeah thats what I have done for years.
