Default Water in fuel?

I have a two stroke 90hp Yamaha and had some issues out on the water yesterday. Whenever I started getting up on a plane the engine would rev down. It would drop from 4000 RPMs to around 2000 RPMs. I would leave the throttle pushed forward and occasionally without notice if would jump back into full speed then back down again. This went on all day and made for a long trip. I am not an expert mechanic by any means but it seems like there might be water or something in the fuel. What is the best and easiest way to fix this issue? Thank you for the help.

I had the same problem with my Yamaha 225. It was the H2O sensor.

it definatly sounds like a fuel issue, not sure it is water, but it certainly sounds like you have some junk in your carbs, we are having many issues with this, we have a new very good ultra sonic cleaner that insures we get it all out,, give me a call.

Remove the coils on the rear of the engine, clean all the ground connections and get the salt off them. Reinstall and spray some WD40 or something like that over the area. You are losing a coil and dropping from 3 cylinders to 2 then back to 3. If its not the connection, then you will need to determine which coil is failing. Could also just be a sparkplug fouling.

I had that problem and checked my fuel filter and found fragments of plastic, It most likely came from my fuel tank, stemming from Ethanol fuel. I cleaned my tank, changed my fuel, change the filter, added SeaFoam, and try to use non-ethanol fuel.

Thanks for all the tips. I am going to try and do all of the above and give it a nice tune up. I did change my water/fuel separator about 3 months ago.

If you have water or crap in your tank your filter could already be stoped up again.
