Default VHF Radio - Hard Mount

My VHF has been wet to the point of projecting under water sounds (gargled like) but always returns to normal after a drying period...well my luck has run out with sound but radio still appears ok but speaker sound is faint like from a far away distance (turn up the volume)...can the speaker be replace? or is it even worth the cost?

Probably not worth messing with. I would replace it. Only way to find out is to open it up and see if you really really want to. I personally wouldn't.

Does your vhf have the ability to add an external speaker?Mine basic apelco does so I would bet yours did too - that may be an inexpensive option - I think I have one of the small external speakers you can have if it will work (and I can find it)

sidetrack,

great option there..i'll have to check and thanks for the offer...as far as "if i can find" i know what you mean..but still sounds like a solution if my radio as that option...don't want to have to remount brackets/additional holes etcto replace with my newer one inherited from a former boat...

Thanks
