Default Throttle up = dead

I'm new to the whole boat world and now I have my first problem and I'm not sure what it is. It took forever to crank today and when it did it idled rough. Then I gave it some throttle and it shut off. I kept trying and it would crank, but kept shutting off when I would give it gas. Anyone know what this might be??? It's a '77 35hp Evinrude if that helps any.

As TMS said, it could be several things. If it has sat for a while, it could be a gummed carb. It could be you have water in your fuel tank that made it to your carb. I would also do a compression check for the heck of it.

agreed with all the above....clean the carb on it,change plugs and wires...basically give her a good ole tune up and see if that helps
