Salt Build Up

WhenI pulledthe engine cowling off my 90 yammer hammer I noticed what appeared to be salt build up on the bolt/screw heads etc. Is there a product out there to help remove this or should I be rinsing with fresh water when washing the boat ??

Try to scrape some of the corrosion off then use an engine degreaser and rinse. once the engine is dry, apply corrosion x or corrosion block to the entire engine. my favorite is corrosion x. once every couple of months you can check to see if you need to touch up an area. usually I only have to reapply some once a year. be carefull not to spray water directly into the breather box/intake. if you are getting a lot of corrosion, you may have a water seep somewhere or the water is getting in through the cowling seals due to age, improper assembly, or engine height. the corrosion spray will tremendously help.

What David said, only spray Fluid Film on it, you wont have to reapply it.....

I thought your favorite was fluid film david... isnt this what you taught me,,,, or must i relearn the master...:usaflag

I use the fluid film also and have for probaby the past 4-5 yr with no reapplication needed.

I have almost a gallon of CRC 3-36 and have always wondered if it was any good for salt corrosion. I had a thought of using it on my reels down here. Is Fluid Film safe to use as a reel lube?? And can you spray it onto the guides and metal parts of a rod without any negative effects??

I have used CRC 3-36 on the outside of my weapons and it seems to evaporate quickly so I am going to give this a try.

I would imagine that you can find this product in most any auto parts store or marine shop, eh??

don't use the Fluid Film on reels or rods. It's a very thick coating/protectant that doesn't come off easily. use something thinner

LPS 3 has always worked for me with all metal. You just cannot paint with it on.
