I am trying to remove the lower unit on my yamaha 2003 150 outboard 2-stroke..After removing the 6 obvious bolts, should the lower unit drop? I am aware of the speedometer hose and a small grounding cable. Thanks

There is a bolt above the trim tab and I have removed it, but it only holds the trim tab in place. I have only two lower bolts in place now and they are backed about 3/4 of the way out..I am beating on it with a rubber mallet but this thing is either stuborn or Im missing something. Do I need to remove the prop for any reason? Only looking to work on the water pump. Could it just be the seal holding it in place? Thanks to anyone willing to give this dummy some advice!!:banghead

Once the trim tab(sacrificial anode) is off. Look up in the hole. There is another bolt for the lower unit there. There is a great guide for yamaha water pump replacement that has illustrations on www.thehulltruth.com. You may have to do a little search but it was a great little guide with step by step photos. Good Luck!!!!

Also, when you put the lower unit back on, make sure you align the shaft up good. The first time I did this, the shaft slipped a little to one side. And even though it all bolted back up, the prop would not turn when put in gear. Luckily, I tested it before putting it in the water. Pulled the unit back off and made sure the shaft aligned as it went in. Lesson learned!
