Default Question - Water Coming Out of Flush Port

We put the boat in the water this morning to see some water dripping out of the flush port on our port engine. When more throttle is applied, the stream intensifies. We put it back on the trailer and left the ramp. There are two little holes in the caps of the flush ports(i guess for air?)on each engine, so it's not just a broken seal on the cap. Water is coming out of the flush hose when it isn't supposed to. Any ideas on what's wrong?

You didn't say what model mot you have, but it probably doesn't matter. Mercury's have a one way valve to prevent this. Could be there is some trash or corrosion in the valve and is preventing it from closing. Go to Lowes or a hardware store and get a male hose cap. Screw it in a press on until you can get it to the shop.

It is in my signature...oke

We should be able to get it down to the shop tommorow. I think your right about the possible trash stuck in the valve. Thanks for the help!

There is a check valve at the top of the powerhead. Merc says to usually replace them if they leak. Before hauling the boat around, talk to where you are taking it and see if they have the check valves or how long it would take to get them so you aren't without your boat long.

We actually fixed it today ourselves. We just tapped the outside of the valve and it came free, I guess it was just sticky. We ran the engine some afterwards and the problem seems to be fixed.
