Default Power conditioner?

Every time I start my engine's it draws power from my electronics and shuts them off. I know it cant be good for them plus its a pain in the a#$. Bonita Dan was fishing with me and told me that I could get something to fix that. I was doing a little research on it today and I believe I need a power conditioner. My first question would be is that what I need? 2. Is one brand or type better than the other?

I'm no electronics guru but it sounds like you need a house battery and a starting battery to me. After I added my electronics box I noticed things would dim when I started the motor too. I added a battery and installed a battery switch with a little help on the phone from a few PFRFers. It might not ba as cheap as a conditioner (whatever that is) but it would also give you a backup starting battery.

David, I second that one.....all the way. NEVER hurts to have a second or third battery. Ask me how I know:banghead:banghead:banghead

It's a bitch to be at the edge and both batteries are dead...deader then..

Matt are you only using one battery? I was having problems with my selector switch never shutting out one from the other and somehow water had seeped into it and was giving me similar feedback. I actually ended up removing it and just run my motor from my starting battery and my electronics from my fuse box to the deep cycle battery. I think what Dan was talking about was one off these

Difinitly go with the second battery and selector switch. If you install it, it should around $100 including battery.

Sounds like inadequate wiring from the battery to your electronics. A simple voltage drop test can pin point these exact weak link before beating the problem with your check book.

We had a new customer come in with the same complaint as yours. His electronics were installed by a local REPUTABLE ELECTRONICS INSTALLER and we had found that they wired his electronics to his engine's ignition switch.

I'm not saying this is your problem, but we see stupid stuff like this all of the time.

TMS...You so right as one or both those situations could be the problem. But a second battery is really needed aboard. I feel a second battery for the engine is like a PFD for ME.:banghead...you don't need (not considering the required equipment law)either one till you find yourself assdeep in alligators, then what?

The 2nd battery and one of these is a fool proof no BS setup. Extremely simple to understand by "Anyone" that gets on your boat. No having to remember to switch to this battery or that battery part way thru the day. I do NOT condone running a standard battery switch in "Both". A shorted cell in one battery will kill Both batteries if the switch is in "Both". That is a combine position to be used in a emergency only and then switched back to #1 or #2 after the motor is started.

All I'm saying is find the electronics wiring issue and repair it before adding a second battery.

Putting a bandaid on the problem can cause more problems and a second battery wouldn't guarantee a fix.

I'm all for additional batteries. It's alot easier to get a jump start on land than in the water.
