overNunder (8/13/2008)Motor came off the back in about ten foot of water, didn't hit anything, everything was good when i left the house. Guess it just wanted to be free.
Sounds like some of my kind of luck!!! I have never lost an outboard but me and a buddy did donate a trolling motor to the Alabama River once a few years back.
im guilty of donating a TM also :banghead:banghead:banghead:banghead:banghead

I once had a 15 hp johnson come off the back of my jon boat. I was going 30 mph across the pass. The tiller started to to rise above the boat, i let go of it, but couldnt pull it up with the fuel line. The fuelline broke of course. Thankfully another boater saw my motor fall off and towed me to a ramp!

A motor running that ingests water will bend a connecting rod. The gas and air that go in the cylinders will compress. Water will not.

My brother being in a hurry to try a new used motor he got a deal on lost it due to being in a hurry and not taking the time to mount it correctly.

It was a Great deal on this jamb up motor so I'm told. Loosing it made for not such a great deal. Several hundred $ just pissed away. We went and looked for it. Never found it.

Dumb Ass! I told him so too.

Shiznik (8/13/2008)I have a 10hp Tohatsu 4 stroke on our Jon boat, Our does great. Did the guy say it was ruined or how much are you wanting for the whole thing? Ours is like it just was purchased. Sips fuel!
Yeah man. Ruint it was. It tried sucking that good ole lagoon mud and sand into it, shattered the piston rods, all electrical is done for, power pack done for, couldn't get one of the pistons un-siezed, shafts are done for, prettymuch the foot and prop are still alright. I guess with some cleaning the starter might last for a bit.

Sux pretty bad man. Day started good with some nice redfish, started headin towards mo's and bloop, there she goes. So i dropped anchor and had to take a breath. Luckily the fuel line was still conn. and you could see just enough gas can to see where the motor was sitting. Called for help and did some free dives to tie a rope to it and pull up. What a day.
