Default oil reservoir question-115 Mariner

Of allthe posts i have read, haven't seen this problem, maybe someone can help? The main (large) oil reservoir doesn't seem to be feeding the smaller one that is on the outboard..What do i need and canan old do it yourselfer get it done? Any thing tricky about it. Right now I have to take the cowling off every so often and refill from a jug...not that much fun when you're running from Gulf Breeze to the pass and beyond...Any ideas? Thanks a TON!? All the guys on the Forum seem to have great answers!!!!

Default RE: oil reservoir question-115 Mariner

I am going to have to assume that you have a V6 150hp or larger because the 115hp does not have two tanks. On the V6, there are a few things it can be. You may not have a sealed system. If the cap on the boat tank is loose or missing an o-ring, you will have no pressure build-up. If you have a remote oil fill that the cap or hose is leaking, you will not build pressure. If your air pressure line has a hole, you will not build pressure. If the fitting on the engine that feeds the air pressure is bad, you will not build pressure. (I think you get the pressure not building idea) Another thing is if there is debris or sludge in the boat tank, the filter on the bottom of the pickup will not allow for oil transfer. If you have bad compression in the cylinder that feeds the air, you will not get pressure. Call me if you want if you have other questions.

I concure with Double D . I have a mercury 115.I removed the oil tank for the pump was fowling and the parts to rebuild are on the no longer servicable list in Mercury mariner parts listings and list sites online.
