Default Mercruiser 4.3 Replacement

I'm about to replace my starter on a mercruiser 4.3 liter, raw water cooled, carbureted, w/Alpha drive. The starter went out last year and it has been sitting since. The engine needed to be replaced 2 or so years ago but just kept running until the starter finally died (maybe she'll make another cobia season). I am liberally giving it a 50/50 chance of starting after gas replacement and starter replacement. I'm wondering what to expect to pay for removal of current engine and a complete engine replacement. The drive is in great shape so it will not be replaced. Anyone recently replaced a 4.3?

Thanks

Can't help you on a 4.3 but on a 5.7 I can. There are things to consider about removal, and cost, one of which is, does the engine mount below deck or under a removable dog house. I can't remove my 5.7 (sits below deck) without removing the exhaust manifolds first. I can have mine ready for removal in about a hour to hour and a half.

The engine sits half below deck and has a dog house. It will probably come out with the manifolds intact. The back portion is pretty tight and starter replacement will be done with one handed by feel, not gonna be fun.
