Any help on parts andalso anyone whoknowsabout or works on them. Have 140 twins just looking for a sorce for future reference thanks jim

I have worked on Mercruisers for 16 years and can get you any parts you may need, usually the next day. I am in Navarre. 936-9659/582-9716

THANKSGUYS !Just sold my Whaler and I'm lookin ata boat with twin 140 I/O's Was wanting any info I could find on them Looks like I've hit pay dirt with all the responses I got. Can you tell me what are some common problems and any preventive stuff that has prolonged or reduced problems ?

I would suggest that it be checked out first. 25+ year old stern drive engines. The shift bracket had problems on those units also. Many items may be worn out.

Rust on the pullys always gave me problems with belts wearing out early. Timing covers rust out on them because the water pump has a small leak that you can not see. Oil pans rust out on them. Bellows leak and cause theU-joints and much more to go out. I will never own another I/O in saltwater again. I was always working on the damn things. If you can't tell, I hate I/O's. If I was able to buy a brand new boat with one, then I might be able to do the upkeep on one to the point where the problems don't occur.

But when you buy one used, 9 times out of 10, the person before you was not annal enough to keep an I/O in great shape in saltwater.

Just my personal opinion about them. They do keep mechanics busy though. And we have some good ones in the area.

GREAT ENGINES IN FRESHWATER.
